Today, over 10 million people worldwide play this sport, and its popularity is rapidly increasing all over Europe and the UK.
It is played and enjoyed by such sport superstars as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Jurgen Klopp, Andy Murray, Jamie Murray, Max Evans, Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic – to name but a few! It has been described as ‘the fastest growing sport in the world’ and ‘the fastest growing sport in the UK’. There are certainly well over 6500 regular players in the UK and more are discovering it every day. It has recently been recognised as a sport by all the UK sports councils and officially recognised by a national governing body. A lot of the UK growth occurred because people discovered the game on holiday in Spain and enjoyed it so much they immediately demanded more locations across the country. Spain has more than 20,000 places to play and a pro league, with an estimated 4-5 million active players. Behind football, it’s the country’s second-most-popular sport. There are now almost 100 place to play across the UK and a MASSIVE rollout is planned for 2022, backed by solid capital funding from a world leader in the sport, to add state of the art, next level multi court venues across the country; all of these superb facilities built to international standards. It’s coming to a place near you soon…
Do you know what it is yet?

This Is Padel
Following official recognition of padel, the LTA published a development plan outlining their goal to make padel the country’s most popular new sport.
Padel has mostly become popular because of its simplicity. It is easy to learn for players of all ages and skills. And if you have ever played or even tried other racquet sports such as tennis or squash or badminton before, it will take you just some moments to get a feel of the game. Padel is not as dominated by strength and serve as often happens in Tennis. Therefore it is a game men, women and kids can all enjoy together. It is excellent for developing hand eye co-ordination and racket skills and a great and efficient fitness workout suitable for all. Points are won by strategy rather than by sheer strength and power, so match-craft and technique are the important skills. This means it is very accessible to everybody. But at the same time it can be super competitive! See below…
